It’s a little long but great Beach Music while you watch. Alot of shaggers have posted on this video please share a story about NMB (the Pad) or MB (Pavilion) shaging history if you have any. Mr Johnny Barker had this to say about the song and video. “We recorded the Beach Music Medley in the early 80s with the Embers. My family stayed in Cherry Grove in the early 60s. Jackie Gore, Gerald Davis and I, all on this medley, performed today with the NC Symphony in Raleigh with the Legends of Beach in an incredible show saluting NC music, including beach music. We’ve got to start doing this medley again. Thanks to whoever put this together. You and Frank H have my gratitude. @BeachMusicDJ I looked thru my collection and could not find one for the Fleetwood I will send it to you if I come across a post card in the future.
@Cathooker2 Thank you for subscribing, hope you enjoy the music! BTW, did you ever come across a photo of the Fleetwood Motel, it was located in Myrtle somewhat across from the Mall and near where Hardee’s restaurant was located and about a mile or so south of the old Hickory House. Anyway, the parents of my best friend in high school owned and operated the place, a typical Mom & Pop motel. Their last name was McCormick.

@BeachMusicDJ Thanks for the kind words and may I say thanks to you for your Beach music channel.
I subbed today
Totally awesome!! Like all of us older Stranders say “Sure does bring back a lot of great memories!!” What a wonderful job that you have done and thank you for sharing!

R.I.P. The Pad & C.W. Blankinship (owner). Back in the late 50’s & 60’s, The Pad was the only place for locals to go in the dead of winter for a cold beer & to shag. It was really a magical time to grow up there in O.D.
I went to the Beach Club in ‘61 when Bo Diddley was there. OMG, we could have been there at the same time. I was too young to get in but being a local had it’s priviledges. Loved those big-ass waxed Dixie Cups they served their draft beers in.
Thanks for sharing them
I second The Pad…and the The Tighlman pier. Remember when Boulineau’s was a dump and the Afterdeck was open til 4am?
All the old places I stayed- only the Pelican at Cherry Grove (yeah, I still call it that) still standing. Last to go I guess were the Sir Walter and the Ship Ahoy…make way for the big boys.
Another motel on the oceanfront directly on a line from the old Zack’s (now VERY sadly gone) escapes my memory- anyone know?
Thanks for firing up these memories.
The Pad…..Ocean Drive
Thanks for your comments.

As I am getting older (never say old) I remember some of these places and all the fun on that Grand Strand. Truly a unique place and I am fortunate to have enjoyed the music of the time! Shaggin’ on the beach, the pad, the boulevard… Oh my, you have made me nostalgic. Thanks for the video and the music. Well done.
Wow – brought back some old memories when I was a mere pup, like The Breakers, The Patricia, Kit Kat, Robert’s Pavilion, and later, the Ocean Plaza, The Ship (dorm-like), and the Beach Club, where I got Bo Diddley’s autograph on a Beach Club business card in June, 1961 – still have it. Thanks for the hard work.
I have an old Myrtle Beach decorative wall plate that I picked up in Iowa about 15 years ago, that show Myrtle Beach many, many years ago.
I have never seen another like it.
I love the Grand Strand !
Nice to see the history of the Mom and Pop places that are sadly going away.
Great Beach Music Medly too !
Thank you for commenting on my video Mr Barker. Let me also say thanks for the music and memories.

I Still Got Some SAND IN MY SHOES!!
Thanks I loved it!
Thank you for the comment glad you liked it.
This was wonderful. A lot of hard work. Thank you.
Thanks for the comment and info about the
B-Lee.
.The Bee Lee was the first place I ever stayed at Myrtle Beach in 1962 with my Grandmother and uncle. We stayed there many times until it was no more.I believe G.B Carterilli or something close, were the owners. Sarah was the housekeeper .
They ran a very nice clean inn and made us feel so welcome .. Those days are long past, but a plesent memory
Glad you liked it the Embers are one of my favorite shag bands
Thank you so much for the memories and the song… the smile and memories still linger.
Awesome soundtrack! Where did you ever find all of those old postcards? I miss the mom & pop motels. The big chains have lost something in the way that they are.
This one really makes me want to drag out my old photos and reflect on my memories of the beach life that I experienced in my youth. Thank you taking the time to put this one on for all to see. The music was a great touch in the video. Keep up your great work!
